Bartelt Wins 2016 MBA Achievement Award

Elm Grove Kitchen RemodelOn Friday, September 30, 2016, Bartelt took home a MBA Achievement Award in the Best Remodeling Project $250,000+ category.

“We are honored to receive an Achievement Award,” said Rick Bartelt, owner. “This award is the result of the creativity, dedication, and expertise of our team, trade partners, and customers.”

Elm Grove Exterior RemodelThe winning Bartelt project was originally a 1850s barn and was converted to a home in 1938. With so much charm and history, the homeowners wanted to retain and enhance the home’s original character while accommodating their modern lifestyle. The two-story addition houses a new mudroom, kitchen expansion, hearth room, master suite, and attached garage with a bonus room. Throughout the addition, it was important to create a rustic, yet refined aesthetic. This was achieved with beams, board and batten siding, shakes, layers of lighting, exposed wood, and other selections that acknowledge the home’s barn past.

A Place to Entertain

May is National Home Improvement Month, so throughout the past few weeks, we have posted entertaining space photos every day (every weekday and non-holiday, that is). Here is a compilation of the posts!

Space for Libations

Fox Point Butler's Pantry

This butler’s pantry offers extra storage and features a wet bar with wine and beverage refrigerators, an ice maker, sink, and glass storage. It also has goldleaf tiles and a gold ceiling, tying into the home’s classic and modern aesthetics. The room serves as a connection between entertaining spaces.

Bartelt Wins Two 2016 Regional Chrysalis Awards

On Monday, May 2, 2016, we were named a 2016 Regional Chrysalis Awards winner for the Addition Over $250,000 and Whole House Remodel $300,000 – $700,000 categories.

“We are honored to receive two 2016 Regional Chrysalis Awards, ” said Rick Bartelt, owner. “These awards are the result of the creativity and dedication of our outstanding team, trade partners, and customers.”

2016 Regional Chrysalis Winner - Addition Over $250,000The winning Bartelt projects each had unique components.  The Addition Over $250,000 home was originally a 1850s barn and was converted to a home in 1938.

2016 Regional Chrysalis Winner - Whole House Remodel $300,000-$700,000The Whole House Remodel $300,000 – $700,000 home was dated, compartmentalized, and stale. The homeowners wanted to update the space to accommodate their modern lifestyle, showcase their eclectic style, and take advantage of their beautiful setting. The exterior of the home was transformed with a metal roof, fieldstone, low maintenance siding, a pergola, cedar columns and brackets, and a screen porch. Inside the home, each room tells a “story,” with reclaimed pieces throughout the first floor – barn doors, beams, and boards. The first floor now has a more open concept, and there is a natural flow between indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces.

The Chrysalis Awards program, started in 1994, recognizes the nation’s best work in fifteen general categories of residential and commercial remodeling. The Chrysalis Awards are open to any professional remodeler and design professional in the United States.  The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.

The Butler’s Pantry

Whether it serves as an entertaining hub or just a storage space, a butler’s pantry can be valuable to your home.  It’s an entertainer’s sidekick!  You can use the space to store your collection of platters and dishes or to stage a meal before serving.  Bartelt. The Remodeling Resource offers tips to ensure you plan a functional butler’s pantry.

Delafield Butler's PantryLocation, Location, Location

The butler’s pantry should be easily accessible from the kitchen and dining room.  This makes serving less complicated and accommodates the flow between entertaining spaces.  Many butler’s pantries have extra counter and prep space, storage, and appliances, so when positioned properly in the house, they can serve as an extension to your kitchen or dining room.

Hartford Butler's PantryStorage

Dishes, platters, barware, linens, glasses, silverware – a well-prepared host or hostess has a lot to store.  Custom cabinetry with roll-outs, dividers, and other organizational systems ensure everything has its place.  Open shelving is another great option, so you can easily (and quickly) grab the serving bowl or dish you need for your soiree.  Other storage options include wine cubbies, baskets, and cabinetry with glass doors.

Equipment

Beyond storage, somFox Point Butler's Pantrye butler’s pantries are equipped with appliances – beverage and wine refrigerators, ice makers, microwave drawers, and built-in coffee makers.  It can also be useful to include a bar sink to help with food prep or drink mixing.  When a butler’s pantry is fully equipped, it essentially serves “double duty” as a pantry and a wet bar.

Style

Big or small, a butler’s pantry is the perfect place to showcase your style and get creative.  Whether you’re incorporating a unique backsplash, a bold ceiling detail, or a fun light fixture, the options are endless to customize this useful space.

Recent Project: Four-Family Residence Returns to a Single-Family Home

Our clients’ 1800s Victorian lake home had been turned into a four-family residence.  They originally owned it as a rental property, but enjoyed its proximity to the downtown area and lake and decided to move in.

They wanted to restore their home back to a single-family residence and reintroduce its original charm while accommodating a modern lifestyle and entertaining.

The Foyer

Oconomowoc Foyer Remodel

The existing foyer was generic and had a lot of unused space, so we rebuilt the staircase to offer better use of the foyer and to compliment the character of the home.  The rounded stairs create an open and inviting feel, and the large mahogany newel post makes a great first impression!

The Kitchen

Oconomowoc Kitchen Remodel

An existing bathroom and bedroom on the first floor were replaced by the new kitchen.  The remodeled space is perfect for entertaining and features a custom hood and cabinetry, tin ceiling, granite countertops, and tile backsplash.

The Lake Porch

Oconomowoc Lake Porch Remodel

The enclosed porch was made weathertight, so the space could be used year-round.  The French doors offer access from the kitchen to the porch, making it one usable space.  It also has great views of the lake!

The Dining Room

Oconomowoc Dining Room Remodel

The existing first floor kitchen was converted into the new dining room.  The space features a custom-built corner cabinet and table made of maple and stained cherry and a buffet area with a beverage refrigerator for entertaining.  It also includes the refurbished fireplace.

The Living Room

Oconomowoc Living Room Remodel

The existing fireplace had a ’70s feel from a previous remodel, so we rebuilt the mantel and remodeled the space to reflect the original character of the home.

The Guest Bedroom

Oconomowoc Guest Bedroom Remodel

A custom, built-in bed was incorporated into the guest bedroom to take advantage of an existing alcove.  The homeowners thought this would be a great space for their grandchildren.
