Bartelt was recently named the 2019 Region 3 Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) for the Entire House $500,001 – $750,000 and Entire House $750,001 – $1,000,000 categories.

“We are honored to be named 2019 Regional Contractor of the Year in these categories,” said Rick Bartelt, owner. “This accomplishment is the result of the expertise and creativity of our entire team, industry partners and clients.  We wouldn’t be where we are today without them.”

Bartelt was selected as the winner of Region 3 North Central, an area that includes contractors from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.  Contractors from seven regions around the country vie for CotY Awards on an annual basis, and all regional winners will now be eligible for the National CotY Awards.  National winners will be honored at NARI’s Evening of Excellence reception on Friday, April 12, 2019, in San Diego, California.

The homeowners contemplated moving to find a home better suited for their family of six, but after years of searching, they realized that they did not want to leave their neighborhood. They decided to remodel their home to accommodate daily living and showcase their vintage style. An addition was built to expand the home to include a large kitchen, family room, mudroom, master suite and additional bedrooms. The home features details that complement both the existing character of the home and the homeowners’ style – brass fixtures and hardware, cased openings, built-in bookshelves, v-groove walls and a neutral color scheme.

The homeowners loved the location of this family lake home, but it lacked character and didn’t function well for their lifestyle. It was important that the remodeled rooms accommodated entertaining and took advantage of the lake views. Walls were removed on the first floor to create a better flow between entertaining spaces and new windows and a folding glass door showcase the scenic backdrop. The home also features a new kitchen, a lower level pub, a screen room off the dining room and a large deck. Natural textures and a light color scheme give the home a nautical feel.

The homeowners wanted to update their first floor to accommodate entertaining and daily living while taking advantage of the lake views.  The remodeled spaces enhance the home’s original charm and offer an open floor plan.

The original kitchen was dark and dated, with little work space.  The remodeled kitchen features painted and glazed custom cabinetry, granite countertops, high-end appliances, and ample storage and counter space.  The large island accommodates casual meals and entertaining, and its contrasting color adds interest to the space.

Neighboring the kitchen was the cramped wet bar area.  Now, the wet bar serves as an entertaining hub, having a direct connection to the kitchen, dining room, and family room.  It also features a coved ceiling to complement existing details.

The back of the home was closed off to the lake views.  The homeowners wanted to improve the sight lines, so they could enjoy their backdrop.  The remodel opened up the back wall of the home to showcase their views and create space for a screened-in porch.  Heated floors allow the homeowners to enjoy the space into the fall months.
