On Friday, January 7, 2022, the Bartelt team took home one gold award in the Residential Kitchen Over $150,000 category, two gold awards in the Residential Interior $250,001 to $500,000 category, and one silver award in the Entire House $750,001 to $1,000,000 category at the Remodeler of the Year (RotY) Awards.
“We are very proud of our RotY awards this year,” said Rick Bartelt, owner. “We couldn’t have accomplished this without the ingenuity and expertise of our entire team – our designers, carpenters, production staff, trade partners and clients. We work with the best in the industry!”
The Remodeler of the Year Awards is an annual event hosted by NARI Milwaukee. It is an opportunity to honor the outstanding work its members have accomplished throughout the year.
Residential Kitchen Over $150,000 | Gold Award
The homeowners liked their location and the size of their home, but the 1970s kitchen was dated and didn’t function well for the family of four. They desired a space that was more conducive to daily living and entertaining. With the removal of the wall between the kitchen and hearth room, the room is now connected to other first floor entertaining spaces. The large kitchen is conducive to the family’s needs. It features a rustic cherry stained island, gray subway tile, ample storage, furniture-style custom cabinetry, marble-look quartz tops, nickel fixtures and hardware, and a custom range hood.

The homeowners loved their historic neighborhood and the charm of their 1916 home, but there were spaces that didn’t acknowledge the era of their home, and it lacked functionality for the growing family’s daily life. The remodel opened up first floor entertaining spaces, created a kitchen that serves as the hub of the home, offered a functional entry, updated the primary bathroom, and preserved and complemented the original character of the home. The interior remodel features painted and stained woodwork, quarter sawn oak floors, original steel doors, reclaimed lighting, quartz tops, custom furniture-style cabinetry, v-groove, and built-ins.

The first floor wasn’t conducive to the family of five’s lifestyle and entertaining. It was dated and compartmentalized. They desired more connection between spaces, and they wanted their home to be a reflection of their style. With the removal of walls, the kitchen expanded into the formal dining room and is now open to other entertaining spaces. The kitchen is timeless, modern and charming – white furniture-style cabinetry, a jewel-toned island, a custom butcher block, and black and brass hardware and fixtures. The remodel also updated the three-season room and created a more functional entry and laundry room.
Entire House $750,001 to $1,000,000 | Silver Award
More money had been put into the grandeur of the 1990s home rather than quality finishes. The homeowners desired spaces that not only functioned better but also had more character. The exterior of the home was updated with lower maintenance materials. An addition was built to create extra space off the kitchen and accommodate a larger laundry room. Details – a coffered ceiling, crown molding, paneling, a custom hickory floor, and built-ins – added charm to the interior. The remodeled kitchen now serves as an entertaining hub and boasts double islands, custom cabinetry and a better connection to other spaces.
